I have been having problems with my 2003 Taurus SES. The alternator blew the rectifiers, I had it rebuilt by a local shop. Had issues with the repair. I can truely say that not all voltage regulators are the same. Went thru 3 replacemnet regulators and still no go. Went to junk yard found one that works. Convinced the repair shop his replacements would not work. He got the right one. I thought for awhile that my car computer had failed, a 500 to 1300 dollar repair. I certainly know how to change out an alternator with speed now, plenty of sweat experience. Now the rock story. Two years ago my wife and I went to Girrad and colleced some chert. When leaving the site we continued on north bound on River Road in the Taurus. The sand in the road in areas is almost like driving in wet mud. We got ot a cross road and the sand was about 8 to 12 inches deep and the Taurus was really sinking down into the sand. I thought I was stuck. Got loose, continued on up the road an noticed the county had put down huge chunks of gravel to help support and traffic on the road, so I got onto the gravel. Wrong move ! Taurus sank down far enought to drag the gravel on the bottom of the car. I felt lucky to have got out of this problem and returned to the collecting site south bound to the pavement and back to Girard. Wednes afternoon while exchanging out alternators, I dropped tools at different times and most of the time the tools fell thru to the ground. Well this once, the 15 mm wrench fell but landed on a support beam on the frame. Got down on the ground ran hand up from the bottom for the wrench. In this process a small chunk of gravel fell onto the ground. Removed the wrench and picked up the small chunk of gravel. the stone was about 3 inches long with a 1 inch long pink layer between the either granite or gnesis dark in color. Believe the pink layer to me feldspar. Way cool ! Started thinking, how did this get here. Afer much "Cyphering" I remembered going down River Road and sinking into the sand. I would have never dreamed this could happen ! What a wild way to collect a rock !
