Howdy folks,
I know this is a stupid question and I've probably asked it years ago but I ain't mechanically inclined and I cannot seem to remove my coarse grind wheel on the left hand side of my Genie rig. While I'm at it I'm gonna change out both grinding wheels but how the heck do I get the dang things off? They've been on the machine for like ten years. Checked my owners manual and it don't say a dang thing......Mel

They ain't easy to get off when they've been on that long. You may have to set your machine up on end and soak the left end with WD-40 or something. Let it set for a day and give it another try. Once you get them off, turn on the machine andd polish the arbor shaft with a fine Scotch Brite pad. Before replacing the wheels, got to an auto parts store for a bottle of anti seize compound. Put a light coat on the shaft before putting your new wheels on. Take your wheels off at least once a year and repeat the cleaning process.
Oh, and I hope you remembered that the left hand nut is reverse thread.

Unfortunately, it being so long and me being so old, I don't remember squat and my owners manual was no help. So by reverse thread you mean Righty loosey, lefty tighty instead of righty tighty, lefty loosey which is the sum of my mechanical ability? *L*. Well crap, no wonder the dang thing wouldn't come loose. They might have said something about that in the dadgum owners book..Mel

Dang Mel, wish you had said you couldn't get the nut off. When facing your machine with a wrench on the nut, both nuts will loosen if you push down and towards you. You may have overtightened the nut by now. Put a wrench on it and give the wrench a couple of sharp whacks with a hammer, (leather or rubber preferred). That should get r loose.

Will do. Thanks Jake!. My galaxy wheel was one of the defective ones the factory put out where the diamond layer falls right off in flakes. Getting too dangerous to use as often a big hunk of the diamond layer flies off while trying to grind...Mel

I've taken mine off a while ago. I was interested in doing it a few days ago and gave up quickly. I have a 60 grit crystal ring that I got used in perfect shape and I wanted to abuse a few rocks. My 80 grit is in good shape. Thanks for asking the question.
