I cabbed some stones this weekend from a mix of slabs and I have no idea what they are. I would like to see if anyone can ID them for me. I enjoyed working with them and wouldn't mind finding more. Marble? - This is probably around a MOHS 6. Softer than agate/jasper and harder than Piccasso stone. Yellow Feather Jasper Agate? - I have seen this type of agate named before on RTH but cannot find the post again. This last one is some odd material (cab isn't done lol) It has varying hardnesses across the stone. The brown areas are softer than green/blue areas - but the more vivid sky blue sots (middle & left of center) is softer than the other green/blue areas. At first I thought maybe the brown was copper. It looks like a tarnished penny - but it did not get shiny on the wheels. Any help with ID's is very much appreciated!! Thank you! Roger

The second and third ones look like (probably are) dendretic opalite from Australia. The first one is unlikely marble since the hardness is above Mohs 3-4. Possibly opal? Without testing, a positve i.d. is never possible.

Without testing, a positve i.d. is never possible. I don't think the first is opal. I have worked with opal quite a bit and this doesn't have the same feel to it. I think the second and third are Feather Jasper. I vaguely remember buying some and rockjunkie nudged me in another thread. Thanks for help!

I'm wondering if the blue flash in the 1st is Labradorite. - or am I seeing a blue reflection of florescent bulbs overhead?
the agate is rooster tail
I think the 3rd is a chrysocolla with cuprite

Roger, your cabs are beautiful! Thought the first one might be Rosella opalite from Oz, too, but don't recall seeing any of the material with banding in it. 4th and 5th cab could be Rooster Tail agate as deb193redux suggested, but Vaquilla agate looks similar to Rooster Tail? Agree that the last one looks like chrysocolla with cuprite.

Haven't heard from you in a while. The blue flash in the first one is actually a reflection of the window I found some photos of Chrysocolla with cuprite online that are similar so I think that was is right. I am not sure on the rooster tail. I can't seem to find an example online with the same type of "banding" formations. What I see online is more "plumey"..yes - I just made up a new word lol

Roger, please google "rooster tail agate" and "vaquilla agate" and click on images. Hope that helps you decide on an id. The first one might be Rosella opalite since you mentioned that's a reflection from the window and not banding. Plumey sounds good!

When you search for comparison material - look for Lavic Siding brecciated jasper for number four.
