Converting an old Singer type sewing machine into a faceting machine or set of lapidary wheels? Hi Alan- I didn't think about converting an old singer sewing machine into a faceting machine or lapidary wheels, but I did think about converting an old singer sewing machine into a Rotary tumbler. After I thought about it, i actually built it. See it here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/66237/vintage-sewing-machine-tumbler-videoIt worked fine and the upside was that it had steel gears which are an advantage over using belts. The down side to using the sewing machine is that the motor is not big enough to support the loads of the tumbler, causing it to overheat. Also, in my case, I needed a continuous duty motor and the sewing machine motor is not designed for continuous duty. In your case, if you only intend on using it for short spans of time then it may be a viable option. If you're going to be requiring it to be running for an extended time I think you'll run into the same problem I did with the motor. Just my 2 cents. Looking forward to see what you build. Sak

I was referring to using a foot power setup for short duration uses such as grinding facets with a flat wheel or cabs with drums.

Wow, never thought of "foot power". Sounds like it would be a good workout & time consuming.
