I have had this slab for many years, no idea what it is.. I have just been calling it a jasper. (bottom rock i found in NY when i was little, looks similar) Thanks for the help

looks like opal, or an opal x jasper hybrid. Whatever it is, it is neat looking.

forgt to note that it has some crystal cavities on the end and whats left of one on the top... could it be some weird agate?

Scratchtest would confirm opal versus Agate very quickly. Looks great, regardless what it is.

Just on how the crack or the break in the stone makes me think its a hard material. Going to guess a jasper-agate mix. The scratch test should confirm the difference easily enough. Opal or not.
