this is beginning to attract me. I have so many beautiful slicks that I won't be able to bear to cut. Maybe make suiseki pets out of them. www.suiseki.com/about/index.html

This is very popular in China but it is a little bit different there. These appear to be something like a mountain etc but in China they are pretty much just a rock standing on wood. A friend there did a lot of work on the wood for other peoples rock. The thing I did not like about them there is that EVERY LAST ONE HAD THE EXACT SAME COLOR OF WOOD. Stained very dark then 15 coats of clear lacquer.
I really like these that are placed in the sand. I have a couple of agates that really look like mountains. One has white points or peaks that look like snow. I need to do some digging through my collection that is stuffed into every little crack and crevasse.
Thanks for posting this. Jim

I have seen some of this type of art form..It's interesting to see something like that bring focus to an object and make it look so real to the eye and imagination .........

this is the link to an American group, lots of innovation, not as traditional but still some real beautiful pieces. In all of these, the ones standing vertically on a real narrow end and getting wider near the top disturb me. I guess I just don't have enough imagination to provide the rest of the mountain or something. patrickmetiva.com/stoneimagesiv2013.html

Wampidy /Jim (I'm ignoring you arrowheadave!) did you find your mountain agates yet? I spent a couple of hours looking for suitable trays to display some of my treasures in, and took down the rock display I had in my living room shelves. I replaced that with my most likely suiseki candidates. I like it so far. I goes pretty well with my houseplant bonsai which lines most of my windows. Nature indoors, what's not to like?
