Thanks, Mark. No keepers, I caught five or six undersize bass. The real winners were the seals, that would either grab your bait the second it hit the water, leaving you just with a head, or they would wait till you were bringing a fish in, then gut and tear it up before you could land it. Must've had to rebait at least fifty times! How many times will I have to wash my hands before I get rid rid of that fish bait smell? I heard fresh lemons would cut it, will have to give that a try. As my Uncle Mac in the footwear business used to say "ya got to smell some feet to sell some shoes". I use strong minty toothpaste on my hands to cut the smell. Works well. You remind me that many years ago, my son and I went out on a party boat out of San Diego. After similar trials, at one point I muttered something like "I would like to put a round thru one of those seals". The guy next to me said "you would do more hard time than a rapist, here in California". Things are a bit different here in Idaho.

The reason I said there was still some cake left is because we hadn't had it yet. Having dinner at my dad's with family. Whole chickens on the spit, wild rice, veggies and Caesar salad. Followed by - are you ready? - Tuxedo chocolate mousse, from Costco. It was all yummy! 3 things get better with time...Wine ,Cheese, And alien abductions...LOL...Happy Birthday Jean ...JOhn Ha ha, John. They don't want me anymore, throw me back like an undersized fish, lol! Thanks again everyone, for all the well wishes.

Must've had to rebait at least fifty times! How many times will I have to wash my hands before I get rid rid of that fish bait smell? I heard fresh lemons would cut it, will have to give that a try. Oh, and I had fish scales everywhere! Glad I was using my brother's tackle he had offered, so I didn't have to clean it afterwards, lol! Happy birthday Jean. We had a great day tuna fishing down your way some time back. We took a "sleeper boat" from San Pedro around 11 p.m. and at dawn found ourselves about a mile and a half off the San Onofre power plant. The water was aquamarine-clear and the fishing was great. We caught mostly skipjack but there were a few big yellowfins -- fantastic action! Mark and Rick, I had mentioned about the seals shredding the caught fish before they could be pulled in... My brother and his son went fishing last week, here's one my nephew wasn't quick enough reeling in! I am surprised there are still half-day boats in business, bad as the seals are. Remind me again why there are now laws protecting them, allowing their population to get out of control???

The interesting thing about this Jean is that the seals attract Great White sharks. When my kids were small they loved going to Avila Beach near San Luis Obispo. They swam innocently and freely near the pier and I didn't worry a bit.
A few years later I visited the pier and noticed no one could land a whole fish. The harbor seals -- many more than previously -- either got the whole fish or half of it.
Then a couple of years later a swimmer training for an Olympic sport, 20 feet from shore next to the pier, was killed by a Great White obviously looking for easy seal meal. This was also after the environmental lobby succeeded in extending the range of sea otters -- the Great Whites' favorite food -- into the San Luis and Santa Barbara areas far south of their traditional habitat .
Don't mess with Mother Nature!
