Just got off the phone with Lortone. They had called their supplier in Germany about the 5000(~5 micron) pre-polish. It does have 5 micron particles, but it is screened at 44 microns to catch refractory particles. Apparently it is a mix and many particles in the 500 grit(35+ micron) range is mixed in. So it is good for pre-polish, but not good for going from 1000(18 micron) to 5000(~5 micron) to 14,000(1 micron). So they are getting a 2-10 micron mix and Doug will forward it to me for testing. It is either 5 pounds or 5 kilograms, more than enough to try. He seemed aware that there is a gap between 1000 and 14,000.

Well, the 2-10 micron sounds promising, and closer to what we thought we were ordering.
Looks like I'll have enough pre-polish to last the rest of my life. So, I have that going for me!
