I recently got an Ultra Vibe 10mb. It has a 4 lb. bowl and looks like the larger Ultra Vibes. I am running my first batch. Am I supposed to take the bowl off the base when emptying and cleaning it out or do I leave it on? If I take it off how do I do it? I didn't really look at it before I started.
Thanks, Andrea

I am new at using a uv 18 and my unit has a nut and washer that needs to be unscrewed from the center bolt. It took a good pull to remove the bowl. I emptied the contents throughly into another container and washed well except for the rough grind and then secured the bowl back onto the base unit. I follow Randy's method and had good results.

Ok thanks. I saw the center bolt when I started but then it was gone. It ran for 14 hours without it before I saw it tumbling in the tumbler. The bowl never moved off the base. I got a new one at the hardware store and it has stayed on. While it was off I tried to remove the bowl, it didn't budge. So that made me think it was attached another way. I guess I will have to pull harder. Thanks again.

Especially after the first use it is hard to get off. I think it siphons on. Pull from one side to break the suction and then it pops off.

I used to remove it but now I just leave it running and dump it into a bucket, the vibration helps empty the bowl, you can clean it the same way.

Don't forget to clean the wing nuts, washers, and threaded rod btw grits.
WD-40 the rod and wing nut to prevent rust, but not the rubber-backed washers or the rubber will separate.
Thoroughly cleaning and coating the washers with a good metal paint might be a good idea, they rust badly.
Spinning the top wing nut off 2" of threaded rod annoyed me so I set a nut in a little cube of soapstone, so the nut is close to the end of the rod, and it spins off in but moments.
It's a good unit, but the construction isn't the best; be extra careful about not stripping the thread on the rod.

Thanks everyone. I was able to get it off….it was easy. Cleaned everything (except the nut and rod) and started pre polish. I will WD-40 the rod and wing nut sometime today. I lost another nut into the tumbler, I must not have tightened it and it worked its way up and when I opened it, it fell in. Glad I bought several of them….might have to get more..lol.
