I have another question. Would it work to use 2" copper pipe fitting?
It'll save a lot of fab time making the body of the cup and reduce the work to fabricating the bottom and handle. Allowing more time for your gorgeous embellishment work!
Hmmm...
I really like this project!!

I believe you can also use "copper" pennies(prior to 1982) as copper solder.
It's easy if you have access to a rolling mill
If using US Currency is illegal, I'm just posting a hypothetical!

Charlie Altering US money for fraud purposes is illegal and melting pennies to sell them for copper melt value is also illegal. Charlie; I am sure you have seen the many "rolling mill: smashed penny machines at tourist locations. Same thing!

Shotgunner,,, It would have been much easier to use copper tubing to make this cup and I do have a fair amount of different size copper tubing here.I could have also used a 2" or even 3" copper cap but I wanted to "fabricate" the whole thing so that's why I used sheet copper. Copper wire as solder: As you've found out,,,it melts at too high a temp and the same temp as the copper itself so it would be like fusing everything together and I aint that good at this. I have used copper electrical wire to "braze" steel with when I want a copper color rather then the brass color you get using bronze brazing rods. In the process of making a farm scene out of (mainly) steel I wanted to solder or braze a thin copper wire to a steel flag pole. The copper wire is only 0.018" in diameter and it had to be "adhered" to a 1/16" steel gas welding rod,,the flag pole!I knew it would be pretty difficult to braze it together so I tried using the copper solder cuz it flows at a fairly low temp compared to brazing rods.I was VERY happy when the copper solder did the job and I didn't melt the thin copper flag pole wire. Ya never know if ya don't try! I don't think it's appropriate to post photos here of what I've been into lately cuz it's not jewelery, etc related but it is metal work so I'll post a link to a few photos of it here instead,,,, The sail boat and bikes are NOT my design. The belong to George Goehl and I have his permission to use his designs. linkHere is a link to all of Georges free Youtube videos,,,,if you're interested,,,,, linkI learned a LOT from George and have bought several of his other videos for $5.00 each which to me is a bargain!,,,, connrock connrock
