just from looking at the rough side in the pictures, it looks to me to be serpentine, I have seen similar to this too. Others will chime in as they read the post. nice looking piece you got there!

looks like a quartz breccia to me, note all the larger sharp edged pieces in the matrix. We have lots of breccias and conglomerates around here, many with a quartz matrix like that. Most of ours was brought by the glaciers, too. He/she is in a location at NW Ohio that would probably have a lot of the same sort of stuff as I find around here (ne tip of the mitt in Michigan). possibly epidote/olivine due to the green color and noted softer texture?

would the matrix be formed like a serpentine ? not that I know how serpentine is formed I assume it cause by high pressure under ground like granitic pluton smashing into a limestone ? or maybe that marble ... I know something pressurized something mostly

yes, but did you even try a scratch test? What scratches it and what fails to scratch it?!?!
This is valuable information in the world of amphiboles... (if that is what you have)

I do not think a scratch test would do me any good. It's a small rock with no real place to test individual minerals that make it up.Harder than calcite softer than quartz is hardness range based on rough grind of flat surface.Olivine is 6.5-7 in hardness so it is not part of this rock it would have taken more than an hour to put smooth flat surface on it.Thank You very much for the replies......Steve

If there are more than one mineral in the matrix, then serpentine is not your animal. Plus serpentine is softer than calcite.
Have ya looked at epidosite?
My image above is a pretty good match for yours.

Black may or may not be present.
