Jan 28, 2015- It's been a little over 2 weeks since I've touched this jasper load. Barrel 1- grit seemed to have done its job. Liquid very runny. Pics: Added 3Tbsp 60/90 grit, 4oz water, and a couple small handfuls of the prewashed Almadene garnets. Removed a couple pieces of jasper and colored quartz. Barrel 2- grit near lid was thick, but very watery underneath the rocks. Had lots of black grit in the bottom. Pics: Lots of grit stuck in the pits Just some random agate thrown in. I added 3Tsp 60/90, 4oz water, couple handfuls or so of almandine garnets (more than 1st barrel) and a fresh jasper rock. Removed more of the different color quartz fillers too to move to next stage. The stuff I left out-- Inside garage light: Outside natural light:

Lookin' good, broseph82! I noticed that your second piece of rutilated quartz looks like it has hematite in it and has a couple of rutile 'legs' that look like they form a star sometimes (rutilated star quartz)? It's the one closest to your thumb. Maybe pull that one and hit it on the cabbing wheels and give it a nice polish? Would love to please see another shot of it.

gingerkid whatever you wanna call it it is quartz with the golden rods running through it. Sorry, but I threw it back in with the jasper to tumble. I'll pull it out in a few weeks and take it to the wheels.

broseph82, please look up (vendors' asking prices) rutilated star quartz. The cabs can be quite pricey. I'll come rescue it...only joking with you.

Thank you, broseph82, but that's one of your finds! I greatly appreciate your offer, though. Okay, will just wait till you get through with the next stage and hope you'll pull it out and cab it. It looks like it would make a nice cab.

Top bowl is the jasper and quartz I took out. Bottom bowl and towel: slag glass. I've done a couple clean outs since I've posted last. This time I left them running for about 3 weeks non stop. The first barrel had medium to smaller rocks and the grit seemed unchanged. Little foamy but wasn't broken down much. The second barrel had less rocks but much bigger in size and the grit was completely smooth. The smoothest I've felt yet. I filled both barrels up with some scrap and non scrap quartz, agate, coral from jamesp and a handful of glassy Almadene garnets also from Jim. Added 3Tbsp sugar, 3Tbsp 60/90, and some water.

After almost another 2 weeks I checked the barrels and they were still gritty but mucky I'm guessing from the sugar. I drained a little muck and water and put them back on the rollers.
