Snowmaom, great job, hard to believe that these are your first two cabs.
Jugglerguy, you are a great teacher. I don't think there's a right or wrong way (perhaps a more efficient way?) it's the end result that counts.

thanks for the encouragement everybody. Thanks to rob (jugglerguy) for the lesson! I'm pretty excited about it. I spent yesterday looking for little rocks I could slab with my dremel mototool... where there is a will and all that. you all are right, not looking back now...

I see the 'Great Lakes Cab Company' in it's early stages. I know there is a pile of collected rocks to start with. Maybe a corporation should be created. Rob is a teacher by trade, and has helped me w/a few questions.

arrowheaddave, psilomelane also comes in a sort of "dotted" form, like the buds on your tongue, or even gets sort of crystal-ish on some pieces.. I don't have the link but a simple google search turned up not only the trippy stripes (which makes me think of wood grain) but also the other forms. The piece I found the other day is the trippy kind!

In Cherokee County, AL "area mines and furnaces, intercalated with brown iron ore--Limonite, Manganite, Psilomelane, and Pyrolusite;" snowmom and fantastic5 thought you'd both like this info.
