These are my first ever psilomelan cabochons. I knew what to expect as far as the mess goes so no surprise there. Very neat and challenging material. I had real problems getting good photos that would show the patterns so they may be a little on the bright side. Here's a nice 30x40 bonus cab from this morning Thanks for looking Chuck

That psilomelane reminds me of jaspelite, but more swirly. I love that other cab. It's cool how you can see right inside,

Nice. Easy to see why psilomelane is sometimes called silver malachite or crown of silver. Messy as all get out to work though......Mel

if you think psilomelan is hard to spell try pronouncing it, yikes. Haha just yesterday I was trying to teach my 87yo momma how to pronounce it - it's not easy. She wears a pendant I made for her and gets comments all the time but can't ever remember what it's called. I wrote down the name of all her pendants on a cheat sheet she's going to keep in her purse haha. Beautiful stuff Chuck! I know this will sound cornball but it's true that your work has become the standard for which I strive to achieve.

Bouncing ideas off each other and being inspired to do better and try new things. My son originally found the forum when he first thought about getting a rock tumbler and at that time I had no interest in rocks. We used this place to teach him tumbling and in the process I got hooked. In four short years its already coming full circle and now I even feel pretty comfortable giving tumbling advice. Chuck

Love the psilomelane!! It makes such awesome cabs! I haven't had the "pleasure" of cabbing any yet though. Kind of expensive. The calico lace is nothing short of GORGEOUS!!!!! I LOVE that stuff!!

Thanks everyone. for anyone thinking of trying the psilomelan gloves are a must and equipment cleanup is time consuming. Not sure about health risks with it (manganous oxide) but used my respirator just in case.

Great cuts all! Psilomelane is one of my long-time favorites, messy though it is. The rewards are worth it.
Good job on the photos too. Because it's so reflective it's really challenging to light correctly. I often end up with mirrored self-portraits instead of gem images.

How do you say psilomelane?
I say:
sigh'-low-mee'-lane with the accent on the sigh and mee
yes, the P is silent.
