Hello all, I was just wondering if you could reuse a back plate on a flat lap? It seems like a waste to repurchase them since you are only needing the adhesive backed grinding or polishing pad. I would appreciate any input.
Thanks
John

I can't imagine why you Wouldn't reuse it, unless it's damaged in some way. Clean up the face with a rag or brush dipped in acetone and it looks good as new. That's assuming it's aluminum. If it's plastic, skip the acetone and start with dawn dish soap and a nylon scrubbee thing. Also, most important, check for flatness with a straight edge. Good Luck!

Yes and I highly recommend that you use 3M 08051 Feathering Disc Adhesive so the disc's can be removed easy and replaced with another. Jason

OK, I am the first guy in line when they ask for the novices, but I learn sooo much from this site that maybe someday I will be able to actually answer a question, and not just ask...like now.
What does "and also adhere on a stiff sponge backing before I restick a smoothing disk or polishing pad" mean? I guess the stiff sponge part confuses me.
