Cheers Jim! That is interesting. I knew nothing of pet wood. I will throw it in with the next batch of rocks and see what happens. Will also look out for more next time I am up the coast. We were with family and friends last time so I couldn't do any proper hunting, it wouldn't have been polite! LOL.
The island is a nice place to visit in the summer. Just north of there is Braefoot point. I has lots of old gun emplacements and buildings from the war, complete with old rail tracks used to transport ammunition. I used to love playing there as a kid. Fished off the old pier too. We are lucky here, are at the edge of town so have a woodland walk 20 yards from the door.

I certainly got the idea that your area is strategically located for military use, especially the island. Google photos of military equipment are on the island. You are living at a low altitude. May have to call you a swamper. I see there are some elevations over 2000 feet around Cairngorms Nat Forest. And 500 feet close to your town. The west side looks a bit more rugged.

Lots of WW1 anti submarine defences in the area. www.fyca.org.uk/Data/Cruising/CruisingGuide/cruisingp7.htmAlot of the east side used to be an airfield. We are at the west side Letham Hill Wood, but I grew up on the east side. Not a long walk through the town though. I do like the mountainous north of Scotland.

Well forested. The boundary of Ian's early and late 'hood'. Poking around on Google Earth I see a lot of Nordic names. Norway in line of sight from east coast. So the Vikings used to stop by and cook you guys up for dinner ? Been to Norway and worked with them. They are some characters. Them and the Swedes, they picked at each other. Each said the other makes coffee cups w/the handle on the inside of the cup. Love/hate deal. Both said the Fin travels w/a knife. The neither of them seemed to care for the Finns. Can not imagine how much history that area has. I see the military leaves all their trash laying around over there too. Looks like some wicked boating obstacles.

A lot of Scots tongue originates from Norwegian. I don't know any Norwegians but would love to visit. Great rocks! This is a great read! I found this a few weeks ago after drooling over Czech agates online.

I found this a few weeks ago after drooling over Czech agates online. Rugged territory. And serious Zircon. What a haven. Scotland and Norway have a lot of shoreline. I suppose mariner blood runs thru the veins. Wonderful
