I don't have a decent picture of it alone, but at the bottom of this display case pic is a piece of Ruby in Zoisite which definitely has the Christmas spirit You have some really interesting rocks Snowmom. Many need to be faced and then polished. You need to ask Santa for a saw and vibrating lap!

Pretty Christmas rocks, snowmom and captbob! Wow, captbob, are there any other pics of your collection on the forum? Sure would like to see more of your collection. Here's a Christmas rock of garnet (maybe pyrope?) with peridotite.

Ha every time I see HO HO HO I think of my neighbor across the street from years back...bout 25ish. He put HO HO on his roof one day, had a Cajun style roof (major angle). When asked, he said that he had run out of lights. He left it up all season that year. More than once we wondered, often out loud lol, if he was just celebrating the season or pondering opening a brothel. Still cracks me up every time I see HO HO HO.
Great rocks by the by. As they say in North Louisiana....Mary Mary Chrismast heh

Hmm, I ruled out unakite because of the black in there, but that could just be dark dark green, as so many of the rocks I find here seem to be. yep, maybe so... unikiargillite? (ho ho ho)

I have unakite from a Tennessee unakite mine that is almost all black! It has green and one little tiny sliver of pink too.
If it's not unakite, then likely it's another form of granite.
By argillite you mean mud? That ain't mud!

Here is my unakite sphere, from the Tennessee unakite mine, I am told. It's got black and is low grade for unakite. If it is not unakite, it's some form of granite.

Here's my version of captbob 's ruby in zoizite. This is sapphire in smaragdite from North Carolina. It is much darker green than the bluish hue shown in the photo.

Hm, those are beautiful rocks. I think unakite must be another of those regional terms like "puddingstone" Around here, unakite is green and red and sometimes a little white or pink, but if it has black, it is not considered unakite... In my handy Michigan rocks and minerals field book it says it is epidotized granite with K feldspar, and can conain apatite, but unlike other granites it contains no dark particles. regarding the argillite, this area has highly silicate argillite, which is somehow from morphing of banded iron formation... you can sort of see how this might be some relative... I do believe the brownish areas are softer than the rest of the rock. Smaragdite and sapphire, fantastic5 if I found that in the field I'd think somebody smeared some paint or some bubblegum on a rock. It looks unreal! So does bob's ruby zoesite... amazing! this is getting good, hope peoples post some more... thanks!

Not like that one by a long stretch! A great local rock hound had found this at a secret locations on Chunky Gal Mountain, North Carolina. (To be PC I tend to refer to the local as the Curvy Gal.) This particular boulder is one that not only did he find but then managed to spend several months rolling it several miles down the steep backside of the mountain to a fire road. Hiding it well between rolling sessions until he finally took it to his house, where he broke it in half. The photo is of the smaller of the two halves and both sides are equally as pink. He kept the boulders in his personal collection for several year and then last year took it to our clubs week long rock roundup and raffled it off. It was my lucky year and my name was pulled. So now I have both halves to grace my front yard's rock garden. I have several self-collected pieces with smaller sections of pink sapphire and even a few with red ruby sands, but this one is unusual.

No Red and Green rock laying around. I did manage to find some lights and a little music to go with the ornaments.

Rock’n hearts make great Christmas tree ornaments I made these years ago and gifted them to the family unfortunately I haven’t found the time to perfect this idea
