I use used ATF in my 18 inch saw. I like it, the solids separate out real good and saw stays real clean. I don't seem to have any misting problems but i usually don't open any saw right away after making a cut. every fire I have heard of happened when the lid was opened to soon. I have a 30 inch that I use diesel in. it runs real cool. on a hotter running saw I would not use diesel. I have been checking on bio-diesel. It has a much higher flash point.

yeah...
my food grade mineral oil hardly ever catches on fire
I've decided to build a storage "box" out back that I can open the top and front of to get to two side by side saws. Unless I can figure out a way to make more room in the shed which I don't see happening. That saw mist in the garage thing just ain't gonna fly with the boss lady.

The health problems from chemicals is cumulative. I would hate for this hobby/passion to lead to my demise. I do enough stupid stuff that could do me in early. Inhaling vapors and mists that are harmful will lead to a horrible inglorious end. However, my falling down a cliff in search of a shiny pebble will be local news worthy. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I use a product called XM-5 in my mineral oil. I cut with a 12 inch and 10 saw and never have misting issues. The XM-5 is available on line from a company in Estevan Sask. Canada. In the 12 inch Lortone saw I only need a couple of cap fulls and the mist does not occur.
