Went out with some friends who had an SUV to get some of the larger prehnite I took out of the pocket during the summer... I'm glad they were able to bring the SUV because even It wanted to get stuck on the plowed road (it was plowed going back by a local though) Here are some pics with some descriptions The snow level Pocket still left to be mined How high up we hiked (you can kinda see what looks like a road) The sled hauling our largest prehnites You can kinda see the sled trail On the way out... the angle of that cliff is how steep the climb is... A pain with the sled.

This is also what happens when rock cabin fever sets in and I want to find rocks I hope to clean them soon... One piece (if it measures 1 ft by 1 ft or larger) if i was to ever sell could be worth between $500-1000 probably maybe more as I presume I am undervaluing the stuff.. if it cleans up nice that is. But I only sell the small stuff usually that I wouldn't put on my display . I might try to make a pendant out of a piece If I find one stable enough to work

Glennz great pics on your trip. I was going to mention that it looks very similar to the calcite i find in seams. I have to agree with Capt Bob, better get that re-examined.

Nice trip pics, glennz01, up to your eyeballs in snow. Brrrr!! Looks like prehnite with calcite? Difficult to discern the color, etc... in the pics. How much does the one weigh that's a foot wide/long? Think Geoff may have posted a pic of his Alaskan prehnite on the forum.

Yeah its prehnite... It just doesn't look like the stuff from NJ. Geoff did get some prehnite from the same area that I did on it.. not sure why it looks so different compared to the lower 48 stuff... then again its Alaska... a lot of rock looks different.
Also the photo of the prehnite in place is heavily stained with iron and calcite on the outside... It is a pain to clean but turns nice green when done corectly.
I guess my pricing is probably about average then... $3.25 per square inch cleaned minimum for small stuff
As for weight of the large one because it still has a lot of the base rock it weighs between 25 and 40 pounds i'd estimate... at least it did when It was out in the elements.

Also I forgot to mention The piece I sent you came from that spot from the same vein.. My large Piece doesn't look too bad in terms of calcite and rust buildup.. I need to clean everything before I can truly put a value on the stuff.

Thanks, glennz01! I wondered if the piece I have came from the location. That's a huge piece you found. Sure hope you'll post pics of it on the forum after you get a chance to clean it.

It will take probably 30 min - 1 hr to clean that piece alone (just the crystals not the base rock) I'm hoping that is is all high end crystals and not 2nd grade. Ether way it will be nice.

Here is the other large piece I took out... most of the other smaller stuff I got was not high grade like what I show here (with large crystals) Still need to clean this with acid but this piece turned out really nice. I am hoping to go back up towards the end of february... It seems much easier going up in the winter actually... probably has to do with the fact that I can walk across 2 lakes. I am hoping that everything that has yet to be taken out is even nicer... getting really hard to mine out though. My foot for size reference.

That sure is some sparkly prehnite, glennz01, and a hunka chunka, too! It cleaned up nicely. Did you use your new cleaning gun to clean it?

I might also go back up towards the end of february. some people might think i'm crazy but I think It is easier in the winter (even if it is a pain). I did use my cleaning gun for all the new prehnite I found. Works wonders... although a pressure washer would have worked good on the larger chunks. I'm hoping next time I can pull out all high grade like what I shown.
