Going to spend a little time in Ojai Ca. Just wondering if I should bring a bucket or the wallet for food and shopping. Did the Ventura river mouth last summer. Thanks! Bill G

Former Ojai resident here *L*. Try going down to the Ventura River mouth. There's a park at the north side and you can park there and walk down to the beach. Shouldn't even be a fee if you walk in. Rocky beach there has several kinds of Franciscan Jasper mostly brecciated like Stone Canyon. I used to find a good bit of fossil agatized whalebone too. Also some pretty agatized sinter, chert, occasionally agates, coquina in limestone, beach glass or a bit of jade or serpentine. Any of the rocky beaches from Ventura north to Gaviota have the same stuff. Only caveat is winter storm activity must have washed off some of the sand to expose the rocks just like with Oregon beaches..Mel
