and couldn't stop. I just kept finding more and more and more. I went during low tide at 10:30 pm, I went during high tide when everybody was leaving and stayed until the sun went down. I might have a problem The weather was amazing, and there were several other people looking too, but when they stopped looking in a certain area, I went over there and found huge agates. Too bad the friends we had with us were not interested in rockhounding, I could have spent all day looking. Even tried to bribe them with polishing any cool rocks they found...oh well. Top center: largest one found, it has tunnels too. My cell phone takes terrible macros. I'll try to see what I can do if anybody is interested. One side it almost perfectly flat, I can see swirls, wish I knew how to polish-it will be a 'future project' Top Left: beach glass Thanks for looking. I hope to go back again before May.

haha, welcome to the club of rock addicts, and what a great beach for temptations. You are in the right place, you feed my addiction, I'll feed yours!

I have collected up and down the Oregon beaches when we visit my daughter and her family. I never had the chance to collect in the winter or after a good storm, as all my collecting was in the dead of summer. The only really good news about that is the temperature. Some of my favorite tumbles are from the Oregon coast. I believe most of my stuff is just quartzite, but they take a mirror shine and and I love the subtle shades of gray, light blue, browns, etc.

Agate beach is on my list... my girlfriend was there 4-5 years ago and says she came home with a load of agates! Unfortunately, they are not with her (at her x's I guess??) and that sucks! I will spur her to try and get hold of them...he cares NOT about rocks.
Nice FINDS! Of course we are interested in more pics. Experiment with light and such... sometimes you gotta mess around to get it "just right"...
Thanks!

This must be a good year for beach agates, been to Agate Beach several times and never found anything to bring back. We go to Moolack beach, just south of Beverly Beach park, north of Newport, and to Ona Beach, [on the north side of the river] a ways south of Newport. Nice pile of rocks you found, those translucents will polish up great. The gray rock on upper right with the little agates in it are a great example to show people in answer to the inevitable question: Where do agates come from? Larry

Thanks hornseeker ! I did try more pics (with my cell camera), but was fighting a setting sun, and now I have a week of drizzly, rainy, gray. I did find my camera, but the battery charger seems to have wandered off. Will work on getting better pics, don't worry, I only have a 3# at the moment, and I'm keeping it busy with other stuff. quartz I have been keeping my eye on the weather reports, this winter has had a lot of 'king waves' (at least in Washington State), perfect for looking. That weekend was actually really nice, so there were lots of other people on the beach looking as well. One lady knew what I was doing, and gave me several agates she found. I also tend to pick up rocks with embedded agates, I just love the way they look. Picked up some other interesting rocks that I'm going to tumble and see how they turn out.
