# 1, the piece on the right might be Indian Paint Rock.
# 4, the piece on the left is palm fiber.

ETA: the piece on the right in pic #1 has the look of indian paint stone. Maybe something very similar if not?

Andrea, if pic 1 is Indian paint rock, and if it turns out to be old stock Death Valley, Ca. material, It might be worth saving it as a specimen piece. The Death Valley material is getting rare. No collecting of any sort allowed from that area in probably 50 or 60 years. I've had a chunk from there since the mid 60's. Inherited it from an old rockhound friend who passed away. I've resisted cutting it for all these years.
As I remember, there was 1 other location where Indian paint rock comes from, but not sure where that is.

Thanks everyone. I love coming home with a box full of rocks. Now I get to play with them. jakesrocks I will keep it as a specimen. It is a nice sized piece (1.5 lbs), I was looking forward to slabbing and cabbing, but I won't. The shop had more pieces, maybe I will go back and get a few smaller sized pieces that I can work with. Do you know how to tell if it came from Death Valley? Thanks, Andrea

Thanks jakesrocks I will check it out. I tried looking online before I posted but all I could find was the Death Valley kind, nothing of the other type. Andrea

Thought you might like to see my chunk. About 2.5 Lbs. In one of the buckets in my shed I have quite a few small flakes of this material. Each big enough for 1 cab. Taken dry.
