snowmom I meant to post this photo sooner, but I can't remember schist. This is a coprolite that really looks like a coprolite. It is from Mahajanga, Madagascar and is between 38M to 55M years old. It's got lumps and bumps with a rounded end and a tapered end just like, well a coprolite. I had to laugh at garock's story. I think I might lick this the next time I show it off. Darryl.

Most of the dino pies from UT will have a bumpy surface rind. The inside is really distinctive and random in nature. My father had a bola tie he wore. Anytime anybody asked him what kind of pretty rock that was he would say Dino poop. They would ask how he could tell? He would say "lick it", which he would do. We had a young girl drop a nice polished dino pie at a show when we told her what she was holding. People are funny.

So, lets get a vote on this, is that coprolite in my pics or not? I have another that looks similar, and have a piece of quartz-looking chunks that have red in between them as well. It looks much more like some of the coprolite that has been worked into cabs.. but I don't trust the internet completely, I am seeing a lot of posts of something that looks like a septarian to me, being posted as coprolite. whats up with that? so much to learn.
so is this misidentified or can poop look like this too? www.icollector.com/Fossil-Dinosaur-Coprolite_i12067487

Snowmom, your link looks more like a septarian to me.
I'm thinking the pics you posted are a really colorful jasper.

Hey John, A few years back I had to have a couple of skin cancers burned off with radiation. The radiologist was a fossil guy, so I took a few fossils along for him to see. One of them was a bola. Also in the room were a nurse and a young intern from the local college. While I was on the table, I handed the bola to the nurse to hold for me. Both the nurse & intern ooo'd & ahhh'd over the bola. After I was off the table they asked what kind of stone the bola was made out of. At this point the radiologist had a big coprolite eating grin on his face. (He knew what it was). After the bola was safely back around my neck I told them what it was. They both looked sick, and the radiologist and I both had a good laugh. Dino poo on desert iron wood.

A daughter would not touch my coprolite after she found out what it was. I tried to explain that it was rock now, not poop. Didn't matter.
Grandson (about 4-5) loved dinosaurs, so I wore my dinosaur poop pendant to show him. He didn't believe me. "Gramma, that's a rock, not pooop!" What do grammas know!

Our club often has a touch and see table that we have at our booth in craft fairs and such and one of the items is a piece of coprolite. If I'm manning the booth I often ask the younger and older visitors to pick it up and smell and feel it. I get all kinds of reactions when I tell them what it is. Bob
