Crikey... a little more than four years ago now.... Anyway, a field trip for Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics (RFTF), led by Chris Rowe. It was a fun trip, exploring the creek bed on a ranch, and then scouring the "Big Pile" behind the Chevron station. We found interesting jasper, some dumorerite and lots of gem glaucophane (material he has now dubbed "Blue G"). Someone found a fulgurite as well. I found a large orbicular jasper. I was initially disappointed when, upon cutting, it turned out to be an UBR. In time, I have made peace with it, and it now actually a quite decent suiseki stone (dai still needed) -- picture pending. Anyway, here they are: www.flickr.com/photos/36618387@N06/sets/72157626122884894/Enjoy -Stephan

OK, I can't think what UBR is.. would you define that? I am glad to meet somebody else on the board who likes Suiseki. I had been feeling like the lone ranger. Will look for that picture, dai or not. If you have more viewing stones, I'd like to see those as well. I enjoyed seeing the trip photos and the cool finds. Nice to see kids along and getting into the spirit, too. Beautiful location for a hunt. Thanks for the show.

UBR is "Ugly Brown Rock." I will have to take and post the suiseki pic. I love suiseki, though none of mine have dais. Viewing stones (though not all are suiseki -- some are hand-held ones like Lakers and Rainflower agates) are here: www.flickr.com/photos/36618387@N06/sets/72157637568378093/

very nice! I love the orbs on the basalt, and the jade drew me even though I didn't recognize it as jade till I looked. All nice pieces. The jasper boulder is cool, too. Breccias are my favorite. thanks for explaining UBR I never would have guessed!

Did you make it in through the metal posts to area 54? Was there Sunday and found a couple poppy jaspers.

Nope. When I went, Kris hadn't discovered or gotten access to Area 54, yet.
