Finally got back to the local gem and mineral society workshop. Work and family obligations had kept me away for over a year, but I promised myself I would get over there during spring break last week. It felt both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time, and my rustiness definitely came through. But I ended up feeling good about getting back on the horse, so to speak. Here are my better results. Cheetah agate. I have not always been a fan, but found a few slabs at a local rock show a few weeks ago and thought I'd give it a try. Most of the slabs were pretty dark, but each had some areas with some lighter colors. Amazonite, my new favorite stone to cut. A lil piece of zebra agate Lace agate A tiny piece of Pietersite, was about 1 inch square with a dry spot on near the edge. Definitely worth the $1. (sorry pic is a little fuzzy -- but nice little cats-eye effect on gold) I can't remember what this is called. I also can't get it off the dop stick. Been in the freezer for five days, but the wax won't release it. And one of my favorite parts of this hobby: uncovering treasure. Here's the slab: And here's the cab (another $1 bin win): Thanks for looking and my apologies for the less-than-steller pix (think I need to get my glasses prescription updated) Matt

Glad to see you're back in the saddle again, textiger! Kinda chuckled after reading about your pretty cab that wants to stay dopped after being in your freezer for 5 days. Have you tried soaking it in acetone or fingernail polish that has acetone in it? One time I couldn't get a cab undopped after using wax and superglue. Neither Acetone nor placing it in the freezer wouldn't remove it. Your last one kicks ass. All of them look really good though.. nice job...John 10-4!

I can see why you like the amazonite. That's real purdy! Man you make me feel so guilty. I've got a dozen stones just sitting on the sticks but I can't seem to get to the grinder. Heck, I'm not even sure if it still works *L*.....Mel

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I will try to be more of a participant here, and in the shop, than the lurker I have been. Daniel, are you at Tech? Certainly can't blame you for leaving Kansas, but, damn, Lubbock? And, no, I have not worked up the ammy lace yet. Not even sure where it is in the growing pile that is consuming my garage. matt
