Today I cut a few pieces I collected while visiting Ted in Illinois a few years ago, and 2 others. These are all softer material, good practice for trying to control shape and keeping a straight girdle. This I'm pretty sure is pastelite. Came in a box from Burro Creek that Tony (catmandewe) & others so generously filled for me (& several others) on an outting there a couple years ago. Next one is serpentine. I love cutting this stuff, it's soft & easy to work yet polishes nicely. This egg will be a gift for my mother-in-law for Easter. Now the stuff from Illinois... Mother of Pearl. Ted suggested grabbing some shells from the river, the thick ones will work nicely for cabs. He was spot on! Shape is a little weird, but was more an experiment to see how the wheels work it. This was a heel from 1 of the rocks I brought home. Has a little staining from the patina yet. Dang the fractures... Last is a hunk of mud with some fossil type material in it. Undercut a little and was tough to keep to shape. much cooler close up. I really need to dig out my camera, cell phone pix aren't impressing me much. Thanks for looking.

Long story short Ed, I lost my muse. Still was grinding on occation, but not much to talk about. I've been checking in here quite often too, but just not posting. I feel like I have a renewed wind in my sails, we'll see where it pushes me.

good ones! I love seeing varieties of local material worked. The mother of pearl is getting quite rare, hoard as much as you can, it used to be 'mined' for buttons and knife handles, and used in other decorations but the freshwater clams are not as abundant as they used to be and that stuff is sought after now. If you ever find a natural freshwater pearl, they can be worth a fortune. Love the color and texture in that last cab. Thanks for the show!
