I should add that Richard Wade is giving two talks: one on dinosaurs, and one on volcanos. These talks are interesting to adults, and kids love them. These talks come with lots of sound effects and objects to aid understanding.
Bring the kids and grandkids. Kids under 12 are free.
Show is this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Did you enjoy the show and doing presentations, Mrs. Pat? Did you get a chance to take any pics?

Did you enjoy the show and doing presentations, Mrs. Pat? Did you get a chance to take any pics? Well if she didn't then we enjoyed it enough for her too haha. We went on Sunday and had a good time. Looked for Pat but didn't see her - but one of the highlights was running into stoner proudly rocking his RTH shirt and giving cabbing demonstrations. I asked him if I could pull up a stool and sit at his feet and learn for a while but he thought that was a bit of a strange request. While chatting with Ed he gave me a tip about a vendor across the way who was selling Richardson Woodward Ranch plume cab-sized slabettes. Of course we made a bee-line for the vendor and starting going through the bin and picking out some nice stuff. While I was happily and busily picking through it another man moved in and elbowed me out of the way and started taking all the good stuff...we'll I finally figured out it was my other cabochon guru bobby1 so that made it OK and we started comparing notes and picking out some nice ones. This was my find of the day - single cabber. It's only polished through 3000 grit before it fell off the dop ... but DANG what a shine already. I snapped a photo of both Ed and Bob's displays - both were stunning beautiful. I'm still having dreams about the large boulder opal in the middle of Ed's display - the photo doesn't even begin to do it justice - It looked like neon lights were shining out of it.

gingerkid and TommyYes, I was there for setup plus both days of the show. It was a true sight of beauty! I took 152 photos Saturday, and another 50 on Sunday, been uploading them and sending them out. Bought an armload of slabs and one big chunk of Australian Black Jade with one side highly polished. Need to take some pictures of my finds. Need to cab them! Need to set them! Need to wear therm! Tommy I was demonstrating about 10 feet away from Ed, doing stone setting, or I was taking photos for the club, or checking out everything. Had a hard time with Ed's case. The black reflected everything. I think I see your foot : ) Of course, his work was superb. The case by bobby1 was also a feast as usual. Got to chat with him for a while. I get to see Ed frequently, and hope to see what he found at our show. He's a pro at finding wee treasures at the bottom of a barrel.

Tommy I was demonstrating about 10 feet away from Ed, doing stone setting, or I was taking photos for the club, or checking out everything. Aww!? sorry we missed you. We looked around the demonstration tables and like I said talked to Ed for a while but didn't see you. I should have asked him. Congratulations on having a great club who organizes a great show our home club show is pretty weak by comparison.

gingerkid Here you go. The individual rocks/slabs are what I bought. 1- Below is Australian Black Jade. This one side had a good shine on it. IMG_3149 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 2- Three Norena Jasper slabs. Interesting stuff. IMG_3143 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 3-Red agates with some good details. IMG_3140 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 4-Ed stoner wasn't really blurry! He was demonstrating cab making. IMG_1207 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 5- part of the big fluorescent display. IMG_1179 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 6-This handmade bowl has stone inlay. Just one of a lot. All lovely. IMG_1166 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 7- This was so mesmerizing, I bought three slabs of it. Seller thought it was serpentine. Another thought it possibly ocean jasper. All suggestions welcome. IMG_3136 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr 8- A friend and I re-instituted the Touch Table. Proved to be popular. IMG_1154 by pat.speece@sbcglobal.net, on Flickr I thoroughly enjoyed the show, but showed great restraint. That one black jade rock, and the handful of slabs was all I bought --- oh, and two little bags of rock candy (jelly beans), and a good book on California Jade written for the non-scientist. Lots of photos. Perfect!

I am glad you enjoyed the show, and thank you, Mrs. Pat for sharing your pics! I enjoyed seeing the fantastic goodies you purchased. I don't know what your mystery material is called. That's a beautiful shade of green. Enjoyed all of your pics - the bowl, fluorescent mineral display, stoner teaching, and especially love your touch table! Is the inlay in the bowl sodalite or lapis?
