Beautiful! What is your secret on tumbling flat shapes? I've tried before but never had any success resembling this.

Well I guess that answers my question in another thread about tumbling Jade! Looks like the answer is yes you can. orrum actually the Jade is a big disappointment I am just getting into Jade and this was my first try, later I'll show you what I mean. The larger piece of Jade is really done on the wheels to 600, which is what I do with all my cabs before tumbling, then I took it to a buffing wheel with Zam. The smaller piece was done in the tumbler, I did this so I could compare the polishes, so an experiment.

Beautiful! What is your secret on tumbling flat shapes? I've tried before but never had any success resembling this. Tommy I had a half page response to you but took too long to post and I lost it all so I'll try to summarise it. First these are all domed cabs except one but the flat sides are all polished to the same degree. First I think that the slurry used is the main thing to have right, too thick and they stick together (surface tension) and don't slide past each other therefore they won't polish each other. A trick I use for my slurry is to saturate filler and cabs with water in a colander and just shake a little so it's not dripping and put in the vibe bowl, then I add 2 teaspoons off grit for my three pounder and starting at 600 grit, run for 48 hrs clean out and repeat with the next grit. My sequence is 600,800,1000,1200,1500, then tin oxide for polish. All the cabs are done on the wheels prior 80,220,400,600 grit. I don't do the backs I figure my saw leaves a 400 to 600 finish thats why I start at 600.

Thanks for the information! That's definitely the problem I was having then - flats were sticking together and not accomplishing anything.
