I did the hex shapes and coffin for a friend on commission. Here's a little of what I'm working on tonight. Not obsidian but still rock related.

Awesome work, broseph82! Nice shine! Are you making a pair of tombstones to go along with the coffin for your friend? The labradorite cabs on either side of the coffin look like tombstones. (?) Are you going to do intarsia on one of the labradorite tombstones (the one on the right?) and the teardrops?

Are you going to do intarsia on one of the labradorite tombstones (the one on the right?) and the teardrops? This labradorite coffin isn't on commission. The obsidian one was. Yes, those are tombstones next to it in the labradorite. No, I wasn't asked to make tombstones for her. I saw my template had something that fit my slab and the theme so I went with it. Is intarsia where you make a doublet?

Thanks, Jimi! Intarsia is inlay. Here's an intarsia of the great Man o' War by Joseph A. Phetteplace. Had to throw in a racehorse since the Belmont is a week away and knocking on the door to end the Triple Crown drought (again). Man o' War intarsia by Joseph A. The same night I made the coffin and tombstones I had started this project asked by my wife. It's supposed to look like a liquid spill. I got as much as I could done (not pictured) but I have a feeling I'll have to tumble this guy as the wheels to hit the crevices in only have a 120g at my 1/4" wheel and not buying more just for this project. It does look way better than this rough cut but ill post a pic one it's tumbled a stage or two:

Here's the piece wet. This will get thrown into vibe as is. I feel like I cannot get certain parts of this piece with the wheels due to the nature of the shape. When I have tried to get the flatter spots the inside it edges get "chewed up" by the external parts of the wheel.

It's supposed to look like a liquid spill. That'll be cool! Yeah, I think enough work with the wheel, it does appear to be gouging it. The vibe should work it's magic on it.
I know where you were going with it, but hard to see it as a liquid spill. Reminded me of gingerbread man
or chalk body outline
or a cross between the two
Still a lot of fun! We are limited only by our imaginations....

Took it all the way to 500grit in Lot-O. Next comes polish and to get a couple things unstuck.
