My birthday is Thursday.
As a child my memory is of parties on on the local Pineview Reservoir, East Lake or Lake Powell or Flaming Gorge all in Utah. Fishing, hunting and rockhounding!
I thought everyone was celebrating my birthday until I started school...
I am a US NAVY Viet Nam Vet!
I remember...

Right on...
My Father served during Korea, but was not involved there. He was with, what was then called Strategic Air Command, flying B-36s from Carswell TX AFB. Long time ago.
Thanks for starting this thread, Fossilman. Paul

A lifetime ago for me. Not many stellar memories. I was osterized as a teen. Dam hippie! That's me... Didn't matter that I was in harm's way for most of my tour. I had long hair! Still do! LMAO My dad was Archie Bunker...total bigot! Looked like him too!

Every generation from the beginning of the United States, had a VanDyke in the military...I will look it up,its pretty interesting stuff.. My Dad was WWII,also his two brothers..I was Army-"73-76...Combat Heavy Engineers (94th)..Never seen action, but toured Germany my whole enlistment, after training.. My nephews and second cousins are in now...Marines,Army and Navy.. The war changed my Dad (to the worst) he was pure hell!!! Drank and fought, always blood at our house every night!!! Memories to forget for sure!!
