I use both or whatever I can find for a steal on eBay. Just make sure the ceramics don't have abrasive in them. Also only use ceramics in a rotary for specific batches. Like have dedicated ceramics for each grit stage, same with plastic pellets. Just save them and reuse on the next load. I was thinkin' that I ought to mention that going rough(er) on your coarse grind is usually a good thing. If a stone is going to break or fracture, you want it to happen as early on as possible. You baby a load too much from the start and a hidden fracture makes it to a latter stage before breaking off and you are going to be hating life. I've only used plastic up to this point. So its all unchartered territory to me. I appreciate the in-depth explanation. I'm always saving jars for that reason to keep the media from every stage separated. I wasn't sure if the triangular shape would pose any problems. I wouldn't be happy if one or more were to break in a later stage then having to go backwards if I could've prevented it from happening earlier on.
