Lots of access points along the Yellowstone and the river cobbles (below high water mark) are all open/legal for collecting. Good opportunity to find agate and petwood. Especially if there are some fall rains to wash the shmeg off the rocks. Many of the USFS lands in Montana around YNP have clamped down on collecting petwood, changed the rules ...lots of BS...bring home something the size of your pinky...Private land is still open. Not sure about the Cody area. Great time of the year to visit. Cheers.

Where in the east? Big Horn Canyon is awesome!!! Wild horses!
Black Hills is awesome!!!! Go see Shawn at The Rock Shed! Slightly south is Fairburn agate beds, lots of different agates and prairie agates and bubble gum agates.

Good to see you post. Hitting the Yellowstone would be real tempting and I'm hoping to get up there in a couple of weeks. Wood around Cody can be spotty and typically isn't that wonderful, although we did find some last week that was a little more colorful. Going over the Bighorns or around to the north? If you do decide to come through Cody holler.

Well, it looks like we're going north!---- first stop is "devil's tower" and then spend the night at Gillette,Wy. on monday ( labor day) we will head north to miles city and try to go to Harmon's shop up at Crane (not sure they are open but I called and she said to call them and they would open maybe) then hunt the river back down to miles city (spend the night) and go on down to livingston for tuesday night ----would like to stop at Bob Gwen's but can't find a web site on him?? anyone have any info on him ??-------- also if anyone is close and wants to get together for some fast river hunting or has a "secret spot" they want to share ---message me ----- can always bring some "stuff" with me to trade/barter for a pull off trading stop!! would also like to meet "mtmadman" or anyone else in the area----wednesday, I think we are headed into yellowstone park for three days then on down to Moab for a ballon ride (get some fossil fish at Kemmerer before we get to moab) and then head back, stop at Denver for the rock show and then come on home to dull illinois------------------am I missing anything ?? I think it's going to be a fast two weeks!!!!!

Ahh Devils Tower is awesome! There is a great Csmpground there and when I stayed you could see folks climbing it. As it got close to dark the climbers did that sling from the rock face thing to sleep. Right after dark you could see their lights gently going back and forth. Go see the nature center there at the park headquarters. Beware of turkeys, they are everywhere and you don't want one going thru your radiator!
