Midnight lace obsidian. This was a pain in my ol rear to work. Def need my other 2 wheel machine up and running with expandos for 320 and 400 grit going for obsidian. Reading the inside of the lamp through reflection

So I've been in NC all week rockhounding. Not the best time of my life, but I got to spend it with the love of my life and had some great pizza in Asheville. Here is a piece I cabbed tonight from a creek find. It's a feldspar with garnets in it. The bottom garnet is really gemmy and looks beautiful when backlit. (The white feldspar was boring so I didn't post the finished cab) And here is video so you can see the shimmer http://instagram.com/p/5n0eyvCYVz And I decided to slab some lighter color slag to see if I could get a piece that looked like turquoise and stump some folks. Well, it didn't happen with this piece, but it did turn out to be pretty cool. The metal did scratch after 3k so I may take it back down to the 3k wheel and call it good on that spot And video: http://instagram.com/p/5n9pW8iYZy

Very interesting material. Is it some type of granite? Rich The black with red garnets? Not sure but it's way softer than granite. Looks like it would undercut a bunch but cabs up nicely
