This is my second time doing obsidian. I learned a little on this one. In the rough grind I was having to burp my barrels every 12 hours. I had glass and marbles in for filler. Along the way the glass and marbles got pulled and the gas problem went with them. Obsidian by itself isn't as gassy as I had thought. Most was "plain" black. Some of the black had what looked like silver/grey bubbles in it. You can sorta see that in some of these. The more "exotic" pieces. Random close up from the pile. Shows the shine pretty well. My favorite from the batch. Did not know that snowflake and sheen could be found in the same rock. Thanks for looking and keep on rollin' them stones.

Sweet batch Ken. Obsidian sure has bubbles. Some types worse than others. And sure enough, snowflakes must be a part of the obsidian process. never know where the flakes will show up.

Killer shine on your obsidian, tkvancil! Interesting that the tumbler flatulence disappeared when you removed the glass and marble filler.

Nice looking pile of rocks you go there. I can remember going to my first rock show and not knowing anything about rocks I thought snowflake obsidian was so cool. I still like it.

Obsidian still new to me. Called them bubbles for lack of a better word. Very few opened up as they ground down and none were visible until well rounded.

Chuck First time I saw it was in an American Indian themed home décor shop. Been a favorite of mine since then. There is a crystal healing shop here in town. Retired lady runs it I think for something to do. Has some snowflake pieces around 1 to 1&1/2 inches with a so so shine for 3 to 5 dollars each.

Very nice job on those! Obsidian can be a bugger but when it comes out nice it's great.

If running finishing steps in a vibe a thickener is a must (IMHO). I use borax in my UV18. Four tbs. in the grits and 6 tbs. in the polish.
