Never have I polished with a felt bob and diamond paste. I have paste ranging from 120g-100,000g. Im doing concave work and am going up to 600 hard diamond and then plan on hitting 600-3000+ with the paste and felt bobs.
Question 1: how much paste out of the syringe do I use? I have 5g of oil soluble paste in each.
*yes I know to use a different bob for each grit
Question 2: should I use the bob in the dremel and use it that way or have it in my drill press and hold the stone to polish?
Thanks a bunch. If there's a thread already on this feel free to just post the link and I'll go read.

I use syringes for polishing carvings. Start with a small amount, about 5 mm.
How much you use depends on the size of the piece, but wise to start with a small amount. You can always add more.

Re qt 2: I use bristle brushes in my Foredom. I think the drill press idea would work as well., but not as handy.

Buy some silicon spray lubricant as an extender. Mist the bobs and apply a small dab of paste. Let it work into the bob. I'm not a carver but did take a class. The wheels mounted were a lot easier for me to use than wheels or burs on a Dremel. I even bought the Dremel holder afterwards to hold Dremel in place. I cab on wheels so easier for me to move the stone. I couldn't hold a flex shaft end long either with my arthritic fingers.

johnjsgems, where did you purchase the holder for your Dremel?

gingerkid I have a flexshaft hand piece holder from Foredom. Saves the hand muscles a lot.

I had to go to a Dremel authorized service center. This was back before internet shopping.

Another thing, use hard felt bobs for hard rock. Softer bobs and flannel mini wheels work well on soft stones.

It might also be a good idea to use a fairly slow speed, so you don't end up throwing your diamond grit all over your work area.

I use about a pin-head size drop of diamond paste and work it over the surface of the stone. be sure to wash the stone between grits and dedicated felt for each grit.
