Not caramel frappacino, but still good. Thanks for the progression photos. I never would have guessed all the goodies inside.

Instead of wire, since it has that wonderful ridge all along the edge, I wonder if you couldn't find something that looks like this [ in cross section and wrap it so it has a metal band around it and then make a pendant out of it.
Also, you should see the awesome chunk of red agate I cut from the stuff we found.

Beautiful cab, but the natural stone had even more charm. It happened to me also, to polish a stone (agate) which took a great shine but lost its rich patterns which were only on the surface. Maybe a flat dome would help to show more bandings on this one? A whitish pattern looks like waiting to be unvailed.

cobbledstones and tims, what I found inside was a surprise to me as well! Thanks Bill orrum and Pat. Once I took the plunge and figured out what I was going to do, I decided to take pics and document it so maybe others could learn something from my adventures. Like, what not to do, lol. Like I said, if I find another, it's going to get cut in half on the saw, save a lot of time. But I am happy with it. jamesp - Dream on, coral boy! That's what you were thinking?? (The amount of time you must spend online coming up with photos boggles the mind.) I do not have brown eyes, nor dark hair. And the back of this cab is not flat (it's two sided, remember?), so a setting like that is out of the question. And I would not wear a pendant on my forehead, for crying out loud... They belong around the neck. (I've had my share of things bash me in the head!) However, what Mark Mark K mentioned has some merit. I have a small non-standard size opal that I got in Q several years ago. Picked up a gold setting for it (stone is 3 X 8mm) with a channel, just like what you are talking about. But the setting is going to require some modifications, and that little job just never came up to the top of the important list. Yeah, never did finish that one either, and I gave away my only gold chain. For this moctazuma agate, I have some silver sheet, also brass and copper (lots of scraps laying around from when we used to make the custom lights). I could either shear or cut a 1/4 inch or so strip, then take a hammer to it. Form it, wrap it around and silver solder it. I might as well go whole hog on it. I've already got so much time in it that I'll never get the value out of it if I sell it. Will probably end up being given away to a special friend, sister or something. Something I don't mind doing, would prefer that to giving it away for a song to a stranger! Oh, and Mark, I did see your Patriotic agate slabs, those are nice. Surprises of that type are always pleasant! We have not cut ANY of the material brought home from Q. Hey, it was collected just in January, what's the rush? Kidding. Bob has made some spacers to rework the cabbing unit he inherited from his parents. We are about ready to order some parts - wheels and stuff - for it soon, get it together and make it useful. I'm hoping to start cutting before too long (not right now, it's almost 100 degrees outside!!! Smokin'!!), but that little HP 10 incher is only good for the littler rocks. Bob wants to either make a bigger saw, or find a used one. I'll keep looking of Craigslist, or for estate sales. I've even seen them at the swap meet. I guess if I run across one, the we'll worry about where to put it!

That is a great double sided cab, I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
