Good example of not fractured quartzite. Has specks too. Typical plate form. The specks, mica glitter, and fine colors are in some quartzite's. Gotta hunt it though. In N Georgia you may find a plate that weighs hundreds of pounds and totally hot material. Sure would like to find the mother vein of this one. Good example of compressed and fused sand layers. Consider this one better than any I brought home. Cab waiting to happen. Could be sliced in a variety of directions to make some wild patterns on a cab.

I always leave my rocks in course grit for two weeks, never had a problem...(yet).....The tumble you are posting seem to be nice in my books,a few fractures on some.. Have you checked them out to see if they are new or healed fractures?? I do know that Montana moss agate have healed fractures in them all the time...So other agates might too.. Good looking batch you got going there..... Thanks for the feedback, Fossilman. We're getting there slowly. How do you tell if they are "healed" fractures?...

jamesp , thanks for all the good information. My thinking on the white frosted cobbles is that they have a protective "layer" that helps maybe protect the heart of the rock from fractures. The hammered rock that you carried home looked really clean and mostly fracture-free. Hammering it you can cull the fractured stuff out (and, of course, see what's inside)...most of the stuff that is already busted naturally out of the cobble seems to be fractured more often than not. But there's some interesting stuff to be found in the busted stuff. Yeah, that layered rock caught my fancy, too. It's a small rock, though...maybe an inch long and maybe 1/2 inch thick. Pretty, though. Rottenwood Creek...an interesting name. Thanks again for the info!!!!
