we all love food, right? I am baking grandma's pressed oatmeal cookies today. The recipe came over from Germany/Austria with one of her grandmas, not sure which side. If you follow the recipe exactly it makes the best tasting cookie ever. Substitutions will alter texture and flavor. I look forward to colder weather and baking season every year. Please share a favorite recipe which you use in colder weather.
Grandmas pressed oatmeal cookies. 1/2 cup of white sugar 1/2 cup of brown sugar 1/2 cup of lard 1/2 cup of butter cream together in large bowl and add 2 medium to small eggs mixing together add 2 cups of flower. soak 1 cup of raisins in 1 cup of hot water until soft and drain very( a paper towel works just fine for this) well. run them through a grinder (or today we can use a food processor) to make paste of the raisins. individual raisins should not be identifiable. mix with flour mixture. add 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tsp of soda, continue to mix ingredients, slowly adding 2 cups of oatmeal. place dough by spoonful on greased cookie sheet and press very thin with floured fingers, sprinkle with sugar or cinnamon/sugar mixture bake at 350 until the cookies are lightly brown on the edges and dry looking. use a spatula to remove from sheet and cool. the cookie will set and be very crispy.
thanks for looking. My kids are not interested in baking and I don't want this great recipe to die with me. preserving my heritage on a rock forum. who knew?

I've never been one to bake. I do chowders (not soups or stews) real well, though. No recipe's. Just throw them together.
