Because I couldn't face the prospect of a month without cabs, I drove 2 hours away this weekend to go to an open shop in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Got some really helpful tips on how to achieve a better dome, and tried tin oxide for the first time. (Thanks Randy!) I think the hour+ I spent on this cab paid off - it's got the best shape, girdle, and shine of any I've done yet. Shiney shiney Second cab that day - unfortunately I didn't notice the giant fracture until the fourth wheel. In other news, I've been taking advantage of the lightbox at work to get some better photos. The colors here are more true to life than the earlier ones I posted. If anyone's interested in the re-shots, they're in this album. Examples: The Guad Cab #2 ever

Doing a great job. Even with the fracture the agate looks really nice.

Wow!!! Great work!!! Look at that polish!!! So that's what the tin oxide can do for you.....
I like to use a light tent to show the color and character of a stone best, but it doesn't show the polish as well. A fair trade, I think.
