I made some time to get out in the garage and work on some cabs this week and weekend. I had intended to enter something into the KCC but forgot to take any "before" pictures. This first is a piece of glass I cut to mount on a wine-stopper. I really like the play of color it has. Paisley Plume agate from Wiley's Well Cathedral Agate Chrysocolla Wood Opal with a golden flash. Would love help identifying this.It has a nice flash across the surface but it is difficult to photograph. I found a 5lb chunk with some green rhyolite. I will be cabbing some more with both the rhyolite and opal. Watermelon Tourmaline(?) in Quartz. This has a better polish than the photos show and the pink in the tourmaline is more vivid. The color washed out a bit in the picture. There area lot of micro fractures inside the quartz which give it a neat shimmer. I cut several more slabs and hope to get more cabs from it. Hoping everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Roger

Lovely cabs- I think the opal is most intriguing. Where did it come from?

Great cabs! The watermelon tourmaline in quartz is really interesting. Was the macrocrystalline quartz hard to work?

Lovely cabs- I think the opal is most intriguing. Where did it come from? The opal is Oregon Opal from Opal Butte. It is nice material and very easy to work with. Great cabs! The watermelon tourmaline in quartz is really interesting. Was the macrocrystalline quartz hard to work? The quartz had a tendency to sheer off little flakes on the larger grit wheels. Once I moved to 600# it was much more stable. It takes a fast and really nice shine with cerium oxide.

@roger
Thanks for sharing some unique cabs. The chrysacolla wood is really cool and the polish on the cathedral agate really pops.
