My aunt is in hospice care and my wife and I usually pick her up on Monday's and take her out to a movie and lunch. While we are there my wife goes in and gets her and I sit in the parking lot and watch the car. Actually I use the time to look through the landscaping rocks and hunt for some stones to tumble. I found this oddity the other day and have NO IDEA what it is. What I do know is that it seems pretty dense and heavy for its size. It appears to have a crust that is chipping away. Dark brown in color. Pretty cool to me, regardless of what it ends up being... Help is always appreciated... Thanks---Steve Oh, and look what else I found... Appears to be a puddingstone!!

Don't forget I am new at this. In all likelihood I am going to spend the next 30 minutes googling chocolate stones to see if you are pulling a fast one on me or not...

Looks like a heavily mineral stained chert.

Looks like a nodule that filled in with just mud and no minerals that would crystallize. It's a mud-ball! ~Roland

How hard is it, on the MOHS scale? That will tell a lot. It looks like some kind of brown cherty jaspery thing.
