...and I still forgot!!!! (the Hardee's cup) Ok, I've got reservations about these. I simply added a drop or two of Dawn and a 1/2 tablespoon of Dreft and let them run for an hour or so....then rinsed. There's three definitely dull ones in there...and some pitted ones. And I think I might have beat some of them up. I'm learning as I go... Unakite on left side from Rob Jugglerguy . Upper right side from granddaughters rockhounding on the Chattahoochee River . Lower right side is local red quartzite...well, within two hours of the land of mud and muck anyhow. IMG_9760a (Large) by Intheswamp, on Flickr IMG_9760acrop (Large) by Intheswamp, on Flickr

Those look great! The dull and pitted ones were probably bad rocks to begin with. The dull ones were most likely too soft. Some unakite undercuts. The red parts are worse than the green parts. I'd say you have a very successful tumble there.

Smokin rocks Ed. Those at the upper right need to be returned back to Georgia.

Thanks Chuck. I like the granddaughter's finds, too. I'll have to go visit my sister soon and see if I can find some. Thanks James...I guess we could do a prisoner exchange....but you'll have to negotiate with the granddaughters. Warning, the 9-year old will out think you, the 5-year old will out connive you, and the 5-month old one will have you wrapped around her pinky the instant she smiles at you.

No match for the kids. And no Georgian is getting those rocks.

Thanks ya'll. The red quartzite appear to have taken the best polish and that's because they're probably the hardest rocks in the group. The unakite (green/red) I think maybe undercut(?) some... Jugglerguy ...up close there appears to be low-lustre spots against a shiny background. The granddaughters' rocks appear to be pretty good, though, and approach the shine of the red quartzite.

Yep, that's undercutting. It's usually worse in the red parts.

Well, I loaded up the Lot-O with a load that I cherry-picked out of the recent coarse grind of fractured rocks that came from the Money Pit tumbler. I ended up with a decent load of rocks. A problem I had was "timing". I started the 220 grit stage and it ran for two days, but then, it was Friday night. Rather than starting the 500 grit stage I did a clean-out and have the rocks sitting in water until Monday. I'll start it back up and load it with 500 grit. Another equipment problem I had with the Lot-O is the cord. The area it sits in is kind of congested and the local cable/internet company just moved my phone and internet over to this building (as of Friday). Well, the optic cable interface is mounted on the wall right above the Lot-O and there's a snarl of wires where everything is plugging into an extension cord (yeah, this building is a work in progress). Anyhow as I'm moving wires around I here a "bzzzzzzz"....ended up being the Lot-O's power cord coming into contact with one of it's fans. That little plastic fan handily stripped about a half inch of insulation off of one of the wires.<sigh> So, before I start it up Monday I've got some taping up to do. Ah well, if it's not one thing it's a half-dozen... But, this last batch of rocks in the Lot-O I think are going to be nice!!! Ed
