I have a summer rock business in Montana, and I would like to demonstrate the principle of radioactivity to kids and customers when they ask. I have an old Victoreen CDV-700, but I am not sure how this oldie stacks up against newer detectors. Does anyone have any knowledge of detectors?

Unless physically damaged they will probably work forever. Is it complete? Source material present? If you don't have anything that you can find that is radioactive search in antique shops for Fiestaware (plate setting pieces). At least the older stuff will sound off your detector. I like them because they keep my food warmer longer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiesta_(dinnerware)
