The last few weekends off and on we've been making the 2-hour trip up to Stoney Creek and picking up milk crates of rocks - jaspers and quartz, including a lot of "roast beef" breccia very common in the area - to cover a small patch of front yard that keeps going to the weeds. So far I've been pretty good about staying focused on the project and not keeping very much - I even gathered up a milk crate full of Stoney Creek and Burris Creek material out of my back yard and donated it to the yard project. Well this trip up there on Sunday we ended up keeping six rocks and taking six milk crates up to the house. Red poppy - not unusual for the area but as hard hit as these areas have been over the past 30 years the poppy is very hard to find. We've been to these spots probably six times and this is the very first poppy found. I had to cut it of course...It's VERY solid - all the fracture lines are healed with agate. I could not break it by torquing on it by hand. Small slabs of a very intense brecciated jasper agate - I used to find a lot of this but it too has gotten fewer and farther between... Another less intense breccia... This was from a large flat rock - about 8 lbs. I found it while wading in the creek and had to cut off the ends to get it to fit in my saw - kind of reminds me of wood. Anyone have an opinion on this whether it's wood or just another type of jasper/quartz breccia so common in the area?

Very cool finds. Glad you kept those out of the landscaping. The last one looks like wood to me but I'm definitely not an expert.

Nice colorful stuff, like that. Rocks in the yard sure beat a problem weed patch.

That area is only 3 hours away from me and I really want to go either there or area 54 once college lets out. Love the stuff you found.. especially that poppy, wow!

That brecciated jasper agate is outstanding.
Your red rocks look good against the green bush.

Your red rocks look good against the green bush. It actually looks pretty good in person - I had concerns going in that it was going to end up looking too "red and yellow" but Eva purposely picked up a lot of the white quartz pieces to balance out the colors. It's not filled up enough which means we have to make another trip up there soon ... aww shucks haha.
