Tired of me, yet? Tried to get more done today, but I was interrupted by company. I'm always popular when I want to cab! The 2 big ones are freeform and are over 2" long. There is a story for the lapis... read on.... Indonesian bird's eye palm root I'm not sure what this is. It's from Tommy and he thought wood. It cut like an agate... maybe it is. KILLER Montana agate! Gave my 280 wheel a run for the money. I had to stop and dress it before I could finish this. The lapis.... A while back, I paid 100.00 for a good size slab of super gemmy looking lapis on eBay. (the same guy who sells a ton in the US) When I got it, I looked it over real quick and put it away. It had the real nice blue and a small sprinkling of pyrite. I don't like too much in mine. Well, I got to cut and polish this and I notice that the blue is only about 1 to 2 millimeters thick in the 6mm slab!!! So, only the top is blue! Son of an Afghani such and such!! I suppose the rest will be flat polished on the lap. This one looks pretty cool like it is, though. But, I don't want a bunch of these! Thanks for looking.

Never! I'm not sure what this is. It's from Tommy and he thought wood. It cut like an agate... maybe it is. I've been searching for the post where I asked for ID help on it but can't find it now. If I remember right we never narrowed down a location but a few folks thought it was green wood - and since then I've come to believe it is. Every characteristic makes it seem like wood to me so that's what I'm going with unless I hear different :-)

Thanks Tommy! I'll go with wood, too. I was a little surprised by how well it polished. I half expected it to orange peel. But, it polished the way a petrified wood would. It's beautiful!

Palm root beautiful! Re the lapis: do you thing the gemmy blue was glued on, or is that gemmy-on-meh lapis a natural occurrence?

Palm root beautiful! Re the lapis: do you thing the gemmy blue was glued on, or is that gemmy-on-meh lapis a natural occurrence? I was thinking maybe they had waxed the surface with dark blue wax being it was so superficial. If both sides were dark blue like that then I would really think they added something. A hot pin on the surface would be a give-a-way.

Pat and vegasjames- Lapis is found in layers of blue and host rock which is a mix of brown and blue speckles. My slab has a very, very thin layer of the gemmy lapis on matrix. The blue is definitely stone and natural, just not thick.
