The people who join the buzz-type forums live to be disruptive. A five dollar join fee that Mark alluded to would not phase them or keep them from joining a forum for the sheer sick joy of being invasive. Annoying or silly chatter is just that; but the buzzlife group very quickly moves into racist remarks, sexist remarks, and crude sexual vulgarities.
One of the best ways to limit intrusions like these is to Moderate all new members--a practice followed by many purposeful, legitimate forums. When someone joins one of these Forums all of their initial postings go first to a Moderator who can screen the contents and determine how appropriate the message is for that particular forum. Only after a certain amount of time and/or postings is the new member given direct posting access. Granted, it cannot stop all invasions, but it does take away spontaneous feeding frenzies like the one that occurred here at RTH.
Many forums also have multiple Moderators who are either frequently online or who utilize a PM notification system for ease in contacting them in case needed. The Buzz members carefully plot and plan their invasions but once checked, they lose the 'kick' they get from invading and back off. Watchful Moderators can check the invasion pretty quickly.
