All this is Harbor Freight goodies. I have little skill mechanically or otherwise. This contraption is a bit brutal: loud, exposed, and tends to bite. I use gloves, goggles, and ear protection. I should wear a motorcycle jacket too because I'm affraid the wheel is going to come off. Works very well, though. With 20% off it should be under $100. I already had the grinder. The wheel was $40ish and the stand $20ish.

Yikes. I thought I figured this out. I see a photo on my screen. I wonder why you can't.

Does a screen shot work? Let's see....
Nope.
Is there anything between "It works very well, though." and "With 20% off..." On my screen I see the finger grinder.

If you are running this dry, be sure to use a properly rated dust mask. Silicosis is a horrible way to die.

Be be careful careful. I am sure you are full of respect when you turn the switch on. I wish you had a guard on it. Ties, shirts, gloves, pants(add penis) are all at risk with that high torque monster.
Be nice if you could build a wood box to surround the wheel.
Those 7 inch grinders run about 5000 RPM. I have my 7 inch wheel at 2100 RPM. slower would be fine.
dust
I must say, never drew blood on those diamond cups. Thin skinned, but never blood. Main danger is getting wrapped up. but you know that.

jamesp says take your tie off to grind on rocks. Gloves and shirt may be hazard too. Keep the pants or else that penis is certainly at risk, whether 5000, 2100 or 21,000 rpm.

Rotating equipment ain't nuthin to play with. Had a mechanic get his shirt tail caught in a 7 inch grinder. Started at the shirt and got his pants, cut his equipment. Yes garage, all speeds. Watch power cord too.

I know it's serious stuff jamesp, I just couldn't resist. I was concerned though about his use of gloves.

To be honest as the wheel has worn down I haven't used the gloves. I would like to build something better. Thanks for the caution. I approach this thing like I approach riding a motorcycle with a lot of forthought. I'd like to put a foot switch on it for engaging power. I'm not sure how to go about it though.

This guard is not perfect, but it is a lot safer than when it was open. Guard is all important to keep you from having that heavy wheel suck you in. Even with a foot with that heavy wheel is not going to stop fast and do lots of damage. The guard is where I would focus. At least I can rest my arms on the edges. Minimize body parts from getting sucked in. It is all wood and a cutting block. Pretty easy to build.
