Pat was wondering aloud on the board recently about who did what here on RTH. I decided to start a poll because I'm curious, too. Considering what you do here at RTH- are you primarily a tumbler? a cabber? or, a tumbler AND cabber? I purposefully left off jewelry making, knapping, sphere making, etc for another poll. This will run for a week. As always- chime in below. ETA Sorry guys, I left off slabbers.... If you primarily slab, add it to the comments, I'll add it to the tally at the end. ETA AGAIN- I forgot faceters, too. Sorry! (Where's my red faced emoticon?) So, micellular and gemfeller can I add you as faceters? Note in the comments if you primarily facet and I will include it in the finale. _______________________________________________________________________ So, with the poll ended it seems like there are more cabbers, which is funny as this started out a place for tumblers. But, maybe cabbing is the next evolutionary step of a tumbler, since many of you are both and some had a hard time choosing- I'm going with that. I counted 3 faceters: gemfeller , @ metalsmith and micellular I counted 5 who say that they primarily slab. One or more may have answered the poll, but I have them down as identifying as a slabber: roy , QuailRiver , Sabre52 , socalagatehound, fossilman Great response guys and girls. This was fun and a little competitive, I think. I was rooting for the cabbers, but I am bias since I have never tumbled. I'll work on a new open ended and more complete poll to be in the welcome center. PLEASE DO FINISH THAT ONE, TOO. Some of it may overlap, with this one but it will be a more inclusive poll and the data should benefit the board.

I don't do very much tumbling unless it's jewelry settings in steel shot. My stone work is all cabochons.

Like Don, I only tumble jewelry settings in steel shot. I'm working on being a cabber and carver. rockjunquie Thanks for setting this up. rockjunquie OK, I've got to add wannabe faceter. I had it all set up, then had to move it all. Next is figuring out the dop deal, then onward. Onward means figuring out the dials etc.

Hard core tumbler. Tumble a lot of rock targeted for mounting in metal work. Some day. Stashing them for subjects in metal work when that time comes.

This is tough poll to answer. I spend my time pretty equally across many genres. I am going to go with tumbler just because I still think that is my strongest area.

I even bought a couple really nice large ocean jasper tumbles at a show knowing I was going to cut and cab them. Chuck

100% tumble. BUT, I own everything to start making cabs (cabbing info video, flat lap, templates, lots of slabs). I just can't seem to get myself to actually start trying to make them. Each time I head to the basement I talk myself into another reason not to try.

you might have added slabber That's true! I didn't think of it. I'll see if I can edit the poll.

Each time I head to the basement I talk myself into another reason not to try. Go for it!!!! It's much easier than you are thinking it is. A lot of it is unconscious hand to eye movement. You'll get the hang of it very quickly and all you need to know is right here if you ask.

Sorry, roy and all you slabbers. I don't see a way to edit the poll. If you primarily slab, add it to the comments, I'll add it to the tally at the end.

Each time I head to the basement I talk myself into another reason not to try. I'm having the same trouble with wire wrapping. I started one the other day, got halfway done and put it aside, having severe motivational problems and probably won't stick with it. Found some other things that I'm more interested though. Maybe your subconscious mind is telling you to send me that flat lap?

Another question is how did each of us first land here at RTH? was it a google search about tumbling, cabbing, wire wrapping, slabbing etc ...
