It has to be this coming Thursday-Sunday. He wants to fly me ANY WHERE in the US this weekend that is WARM(ish) to rockhound! Ok guys I need help. If you were given that opportunity where would you be heading? He mentioned Sonoran desert in Arizona.

Ok I'm sticking with Arizona so.... any one want to input on a location? I've already downloaded geological/topo maps for some of the areas. I'm finally going to get to use my Garmin 65st.

Wow, what a cool gift. My wife and I decide to go out to dinner. I'm not going to mention this to her. I can't help you with Arizona, but I'd stay away from Michigan for a while.

Hey there, melhill1659. Ever gave the thought to mining fire agate? Western Arizona is prime fire agate country... Here is a link with some info. www.fireagate.us/index.shtml

My suggestion would be Madras, Oregon - for Memorial Day weekend.
Digging t-eggs at Richardsons Ranch is a bucket-list item - not to mention the large Madras show - and the plethora of rockhounding day trips that can be had in that area.
just my two pennies
edited to add: OH - you said THIS coming weekend - haha I kind of missed the whole point. The west is VERY wet right now - AZ/TX would be dryer

Cool nights but comfortable days around Petrified Forest right now. Great fee site or two there with guaranteed success or you could go over Woodruff way and hunt pet wood/agate/jasper for free. Good tumble stuff right on roadsides in some areas. Plus there are good rock yards and shops in the area....Mel

That would be great!!! New kind of rockhounding and a totally insane agate! That's going on my "List" I'm starting now. I have to pick an area by nights end (going to be a Late Night) so we can book flights tomorrow. Told Con we need to book an SUV for our rental car.
