Very cool. But, what is it, just a drill? Or, is it different? This one uses a cam action to automatically feed the drill bit into the piece to be drilled. It raises the bit to clean the hole, then drops back down to cut. Damn, that is really cool! When you get done- maybe you can post a video of it in action?? *hint hint*

If I posted a photo of an agate, admittedly, not a fairburn, and admittedly a bit fuzzy. would it tempt you to smile? Rio Puerco of New Mexico and pretty strange for the locality.

Sorry to hear the news! Prayers going up for you and yours during this difficult time. Sounds like you are staying as positive and busy as possible which is a good thing. If there is anything at all I can do from here, please let me know.

Billy is right. Apologies for poor salute posture. I have almost zero practice. But you deserve it Don.

Gotta keep busy around here. My latest vintage piece to restore. Texas Rocks automatic gem drill. Probably from the 70's. Earlier than the 70's. Gerbble powered. The motor doesn't even match, so the gerbble cage and feed box was removed for the motor.

The motor doesn't even match, so the gerbble cage and feed box was removed for the motor. The motor was probably replaced, & the belt guard are missing. But the feed is all there. There's a worm & gear inside. The brass cam & arm on the side raise & lower the drill bit. Belt from the motor drives the worm & gear, and a 2nd belt spins the spindle. Wish I could find an original belt guard & motor, but probably won't. The bronze bushings are still tight. No play at all. It just needs to be pulled down & cleaned real good to be put back into use. Got a box full of old lapidary magazines from the 50's thru the 70's. Gonna see if I can find a pic of the complete drill as it looked new.

It sounds like your on the right path to get that fixed.
But the gerbble or mouse idea saves electricity. :)

I was pissed but now i know who the sniper was im honored. Thought you might get a laugh out of that. Also, truly sorry to hear the news. Your generation is tough as nails so im sure you'll give that cancer hell. Just wanted to chime in and send my best wishes.

I got a vintage Crown Lapidary automatic gem drill that he said he wanted to buy from me. That's another that I want to try to restore while I'm still kicking.

jakesrocks-Don, I thank you for your service to our country and wish you all best in the days, months & years to come. My father also served in the Navy during Nam so I'm a Navy brat. We also share something else, my best bud for years was a Jack Russel named Rocko who lived 19 years. Lost him in 2015. Take care & keep on rocking, Mike

Yup. I got a vintage Crown Lapidary automatic gem drill that he said he wanted to buy from me. That's another that I want to try to restore while I'm still kicking. All that work waiting? You are gonna outlive me! All small machines. They won't take long. The 2 gem drills, 2 Rock Rascal 6" saws, A Beacon Star 6" cabber that I'm converting to an all diamond carving machine, & the largest thing is a 16" vibrating lap that needs new paint, balls & springs. With luck I'll finish all of them while I still have the strength to turn a few screws & bolts.

Did you finish that sphere machine you were building? I don't have the strength to lift it anymore. It'll be passed on to my trucker buddy, along with wiring & other instructions.

I consider you to be one of my mentors. Even though I have never met you, you advise and commentary is truly from experience. When you talked about a subject, I listened. The wise man listens when the master speaks. I try to be wise and do the same. Rest assured that what I have said is not only felt by me.
